PLANTAR FASCIITIS

This is a common condition relating to the fibrous band of fascia which originates at the heel bone and attaches to the metatarsal heads and base of the digits. Strain of this can fibrous band can occur anywhere along its length. However it often occurs at the origin at the heel bone, causing pain around the heel area. This condition can take several weeks even months to settle down.


CAUSED BY

Increased body weight

Heavy pronation

Short fascial band

Sudden increase in sporting activity


SYMPTOMS MAY INCLUDE

Swelling

Heat

Pain on palpation

Pain- first thing in the morning and after sitting down


TREATMENT

Strapping

Insoles/ orthoses

Cortisone injection

Rest

Ice and anti-inflammatory medicine
